Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR)

KidsPhysio Physiotherapists are experienced in working with children pre-SDR and post-SDR.

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) is an operation used to reduce spasticity (muscle stiffness) and therefore ranges of movement and functional abilities in children with cerebral palsy.

Intensive physiotherapy is required post-surgery to achieve maximal results.

Please ask your local NHS Trust about what physiotherapy will be provided pre and post-operatively. We will liaise closely with your local physiotherapist to supplement their provision.

Pre SDR Physio

Pre-operative physiotherapy has been shown to speed up recovery after SDR and it is also ideal to get a good relationship between the therapist and child before the operation.

Post SDR Physio

We will liaise closely with the Physiotherapist from the hospital where your child has the surgery. We are able to provide regular therapy when you return home from hospital.
