Referral

Your child will not need a referral to be seen at Flitwick and Ampthill Physiotherapy Clinic. However, many insurance companies require a referral from your GP or Consultant.

Referrals are required for home visits.

They are accepted from:

  • GPs
  • Consultants
  • Health visitors
  • NHS Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists
  • School Teachers
  • Nursery nurses

What to expect

Your child's initial appointment with KidsPhysio will involve a thorough examination to establish the nature and appropriate physiotherapy management.

Initially, we will ask you various questions. The questions will depend on the nature of your child's problems. You may be asked about your child's development, any medication they may be taking, how they are managing at school, their abilities and difficulties, any pain there are suffering from. Your child will be involved as much as possible in these discussions.

Your child will be appropriately undressed for the physical examination. This is important in order to see how your child moves, for example which muscles are more active and any postural problems that they have or may develop.

Once we have established the main problems and causes, we will discuss this with you and establish a plan for your child's treatment. This will include what we can do to help you and what you can do to help. We will also try to give you an idea of how often your child will require treatment and what progress we would expect to be made.

You will always have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

Consent

You (and your child, depending on their age and understanding) will be asked to sign an agreement form prior to the initial assessment, and will be asked for consent throughout your child's treatment. It is important that you ask if you understand your child's physiotherapy treatment when you give consent.

It is very important that you understand your child's physiotherapy management. If at any time you have any questions please ask.

Treatment

Treatment time and frequency will vary for different children and conditions.

45 minute – 1-hour sessions are ideal to provide appropriate time for review, treatment and full explanations.

The initial assessment takes approximately one hour and includes:
